Prepare for a delightful surprise with these incredibly thick, icy cold, and irresistibly fudgy Fudgesicle Frosties. What makes them so decadently creamy and rich, yet secretly wholesome, can be your little culinary secret! These versatile treats are not only perfect as a frosty smoothie but also transform into delightful fudgesicles when frozen into molds, offering a guilt-free indulgence for any time of day.

My recent obsession with blending has been fueled by acquiring a magnificent, powerful new blender. It’s an absolute workhorse, and honestly, can you blame me for wanting to put it through its paces? I’ve found myself enthusiastically exploring various blender recipe sites, and one particular gem on the Blendtec website immediately caught my eye: “Fudgesicle Frosty? Sign me up!” The idea of a healthy version of a childhood favorite was simply too tempting to resist.

Indulge in creamy Fudgesicle Frosties, a healthy chocolate smoothie with secret ingredients for a guilt-free treat!

After a little bit of creative tinkering—because I can never resist putting my own spin on a recipe—I achieved a perfectly smooth, intensely chocolatey, and incredibly thick mixture. It was so luscious that I practically scooped, rather than poured, two jars full of this icy cold creation. With a spoon in each, I sashayed into the living room, a rare feat for someone who usually saunters or, when tired, lumbers. My sashay was a tell-tale sign of mischief, indeed.

I handed one jar to my unsuspecting husband, feigning casualness. “Hey, want a Fudgesicle Frosty?” He eagerly accepted, diving in before noticing my focused gaze on him. “These taste exactly like Frosties,” he remarked, taking another generous bite. Then, a pause. “Hang on. Are you alright? You have a strange look on your face.” I quickly composed my features into an angelic expression. “Oh, I’m perfectly fine! Isn’t this just delicious?”

That’s when he knew something was up. “What exactly is in this thing? It’s phenomenal, but the way you’re looking at me, I know there’s a catch,” he questioned, his spoon hovering mid-air. I couldn’t hold back any longer. “AVOCADOS. COCONUT MILK. COCOA POWDER. AND DATES. And absolutely NO SUGAR whatsoever! BWAHAHAHAHAHA!”

He looked from his jar to me, then back to the jar, a mixture of surprise and disbelief on his face. Hesitantly, he took another bite, savoring it thoughtfully before looking at me with genuine appreciation. “This is truly, incredibly good. Are you absolutely certain there’s no sugar? Seriously? And no cream? I would have sworn this was incredibly unhealthy. It genuinely tastes just like those classic chocolate Frosties. Wow. Do we have any more?”

It’s not that my husband dislikes healthy food; it’s more that he believes nutritious options must inherently taste like a sacrifice—no bread, no fat, no sweets, no enjoyment. I take immense, almost giddy delight in consistently disproving that notion. And I promise, you’ll experience that same giddy delight in your own home once you make these Fudgesicle Frosties. I adapted the original Blendtec recipe by increasing the amount of dates and omitting agave nectar. If you prefer a touch more sweetness, feel free to add agave nectar back into the mix, but we found the dates alone provided ample, natural sweetness.

Even after my husband and I indulged in double servings, we still had some of this delicious mixture left over. Being a self-respecting enthusiast of minimizing waste, I did the most logical thing: I froze it. But not in one giant block! I poured the remaining mixture into popsicle molds, and the resulting fudgesicles were absolutely outstanding. They offered a delightful, chewy, and refreshing treat that was just as satisfying as the frosty smoothie version.

Transform your Fudgesicle Frosty into a creamy, healthy fudgesicle - perfect for summer!

Shortly after that successful experiment, I made another batch of Fudgesicle Frosties. This time, I poured them into half-pint jars, leaving about three-quarters of an inch of headspace in each to allow for expansion during freezing. I then lidded and froze these jars. These frozen jars served a brilliant dual purpose: they were the “ice packs” in our picnic basket for a field trip. By the time lunch arrived, they had thawed just enough to be perfectly spoonable from the jars, and the rest of our picnic lunch remained wonderfully chilled. We’ve since repeated this clever trick twice, and we’re full of plans to continue doing so repeatedly throughout the warm weather season.

Enjoy Fudgesicle Frosties as a delicious, healthy picnic treat or a frozen dessert!

Now for my final, most boastful declaration today: you know those children of mine who typically wouldn’t touch a vegetable with a ten-foot pole? They absolutely adore these Fudgesicle Frosties. They cannot get enough of them. And if you’ve correctly guessed that I haven’t revealed the secret, healthy ingredients to them, you are entirely right. They’re still over the moon that Mom let them have what they perceive as fudgesicles for breakfast. Let’s just keep this little secret between us, alright? The joy of knowing they’re happily consuming nutritious ingredients while thinking they’re just having a treat is simply unbeatable.

Fudgesicle Frosties: The Ultimate Healthy Chocolate Treat

These Fudgesicle Frosties were developed and perfected using a Blendtec blender, which remains my most frequently used kitchen appliance, especially during the warmer months. This machine is exceptionally powerful; it could probably blend a whole chicken if I were adventurous enough to try (which I won’t!). The key takeaway is that if you’re in the market for a high-quality blender, the Blendtec is my top recommendation every single time, regardless of the price point. While it is an investment, it’s absolutely worth saving up for if you want unparalleled performance and durability.

Should you be using a less robust blender, please ensure the motor isn’t straining excessively. You might also find success using a food processor if your blender struggles with the thick, icy mixture. Achieving that perfectly smooth, creamy texture is crucial for the Fudgesicle Frosty experience, so a powerful appliance makes a significant difference.

This recipe is also a fantastic opportunity to use an avocado that might be slightly less than picture-perfect. I’m not suggesting a black, mushy avocado, but one that perhaps wouldn’t pass a stringent visual inspection in a salad. Its role here is purely textural and nutritional, blending seamlessly into the rich chocolate flavor.

Some readers often raise concerns about the calorie count in recipes like this. Let me be clear: this is a dessert, and frankly, every single calorie comes from incredibly nutritious, whole food sources. These are not empty calories. I firmly believe that food is not inherently “bad” simply by virtue of its calorie content when those calories are packed with beneficial nutrients. If you’re managing your calorie intake, simply enjoy a smaller portion. These Fudgesicle Frosties are so worth every wholesome bite!

Icy cold, super thick, fudgy frosty smoothies that shock you with their secret ingredients! What makes them so thick and creamy can be your secret! These do great double-duty as fudgesicles when frozen into forms. Adapted from Blendtec Blender Recipes

Ingredients

  • 1 can (approx. 13.5 ounces) full-fat, unsweetened coconut milk
  • 12 pitted dates
  • 1/2 of a ripe avocado (pitted and peeled)
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 cups ice cubes

Optional:

  • 1/4 cup agave nectar or very mild honey for added sweetness

Instructions

  • Add the coconut milk, dates, avocado, and cocoa powder to the carafe of a powerful blender. Secure the lid and blend on high until the mixture is completely smooth. You may need to use a tamper to push the ingredients down and around to ensure they are fully blitzed. If your blender doesn’t have a tamper, stop the motor, remove the lid, and use a spoon to stir the mixture, then continue blending. Once smooth, taste it. If you prefer it sweeter, add the optional agave nectar or mild honey to taste and blend again until well combined.
  • Add the ice cubes and blend again, continuing to move the ingredients around if necessary, until the mixture is smooth and very thick. Divide the Fudgesicle Frosty into glasses and serve immediately with spoons.

To Make Fudgesicles:

  • Spoon or scrape the blended mixture into popsicle molds or small, disposable paper cups. Insert popsicle handles or sticks and freeze for at least 6 hours, or until completely solid.

To Pack for a Picnic:

  • Pour the blended Fudgesicle Frosty mixture into half-pint jars, ensuring you leave about 1/2-inch of headspace in each jar to allow for expansion as it freezes. Freeze the lidded jars until solid. Place these frozen jars in your lunch bag or picnic basket to act as ice packs for your other food. By lunchtime, they should be perfectly thawed to a spoonable consistency, and your picnic lunch will remain wonderfully chilled.
